As a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran church near Elk Creek, funeral services were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m., at the home of his brother Emil Bartels, and at the church at 2:00 p.m. that day. Interment was in the St. Peter's church cemetery. Christoph Henry Conrad Bartels was born on October 26, 1876, near Elk Creek in this county. About two years later, his parents moved to turkey Creek. He was baptized November 26, 1876, in the St. Peter's church by the late pastor, F. W. Johns. He attended the Maple Grove public school and later the parochial school. He was confirmed on March 30, 1890, in the St. Peter's church by the late Rev. Bergt, the pastor of that congregation. Mr. Bartels was united in marriage on November 19, 1911, to Alvina Horn of DuBois in St. Peter's church by Rev. Grupe, pastor at that time. To this union one son, Raymond, was born. The son passed away on March 2, 1916, at the age of two years, living only a few months after his mother died, her death being on September 10, 1915. Mr. Bartels is survived by two brothers and two sisters; Gustav Bartels of Tecumseh; Regina, wife of Fred Rinne of Violet; Olga, wife of Gordon Eastman of Lincoln; and Emil Bartels of Steinauer. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Others mourning his death are a large number of nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Bartels' occupation was farming. Due to injuries received while farming in January 1927, he was hospitalized in a Lincoln hospital for three months. Since then he had made his home with his brother, Emil, on the home place. He was hospitalized several times while in poor health, his ailment being dropsy and heart trouble."
