It is rolling land with numerous springs and streams fringed with a fine growth of timber. The settlement is largely German. The first settler was Lewis Leibrock, who located on a farm near the old Stone Church in 1869. Conrad Grots and Deitrich Brandt settled soon afterward. The first school in H Precinct was organized in 1869 with Wolsey Wyant, Lewis Leibrock and Conrad Grots as school officers. They erected a school house on section 28. Thomas Gowen taught the first term. After 68 years this school house is still in use. The Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran church was organized in 1870 by nine families. The trustees were: Lewis Liebrock, Dietrich Brandt and Conrad Roehrkasse. Rev. Theo Gruber was first pastor and held services in the public school house of district number 22. In 1872 the old Stone Church, which was one of the oldest landmarks of Seward county, was erected. It was one of the first church buildings erected in the county. It was a most substantial stone structure seating about two hundred and cost one thousand dollars. It was dedicated June 14, 1874, with Rev. Gruber still acting as pastor. This church served the congregation for thirty years and in 1902 it was torn down to give place for a more modern frame building. A parsonage was built on Rev. Gruber's homestead near the schoolhouse in 1871. A second parsonage was erected in 1882. A private religious school was held four days a week. The Lutheran society laid out a cemetery on the farm of Mr. Liebrock. Two sons of Conrad Grots were killed by lightning on July 14, 1869. These were the first deaths in the precinct. The first child born in the settlement was Charles Brandt in 1868. Conrad Grots built the first frame house in the precinct in 1870.
