Description	:	Sophia Grots, nee Mues, was born in Langern, Hanover, Germany on July 3, 1823, where she was baptized and later received her first school education. On April 19, 1850, at the age of 26 years, she was united in marriage to Mr. Conrad Grots, who preceded her in death. About two years after her marriage she emigrated with her husband and family to this country, their goal being Clayton county, Iowa, which they happily reached after a voyage and journey of more than two months. Read More	Sophia Grots, nee Mues, was born in Langern, Hanover, Germany on July 3, 1823, where she was baptized and later received her first school education. On April 19, 1850, at the age of 26 years, she was united in marriage to Mr. Conrad Grots, who preceded her in death. About two years after her marriage she emigrated with her husband and family to this country, their goal being Clayton county, Iowa, which they happily reached after a voyage and journey of more than two months. Leaving Clayton county in May 1866, by means of a prairie schooner and a team of oxen, she and her husband and family came to Nebraska and took a homestead on a place southeast of the old Stone Church at Middle Creek. When the Middle Creek congregation was organized Mrs. Grots and her husband were charter members. The deceased was the mother of five children, two of whom were killed outright in the home on the 14th of July, 1869, by an electrical storm, while a third, Mrs. Minnie Hans, died but a few years ago. In 1871 a fire destroyed almost everything she and her husband had accumulated. Since 1896 she has been living with her son, Mr. William Grots and his wife almost continuously, in Germantown. Mrs. Grots had always enjoyed good health even up to a short time before her dissolution. Taking ill she failed rapidly. Last Sunday night about 10 o'clock, after she had partaken of the Holy Sacrament, she passed away peacefully at the age of 97 years, 7 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon in the Lutheran church at Garland, of which the deceased had been a member for some years. The sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. T. Joeckel, from Hebrew 13:14 before a large congregation. Interment was made in the Middle Creek cemetery at the side of her husband. Mrs. Grots leaves to mourn her, her two children, Mr. William Grots and Mrs. Alberti of Newkirk, Oklahoma, 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
