Description	:	Cora Isabel Strand was born November 18, 1898, to Norwegian immigrants Syvert and Helena Strand on the Strand family farm on the North Dakota-Sounth Dakota State Line near Ellendale, ND. She was their youngest child having six older siblings, Emil, Henry, David, Solven, Conrad and Mabel (Ofstedal). Her mother died while she was a toddler and she later gained a stepmother, Maria, and step siblings, Agnes (Tveit) and Bert Helland and the half siblings Doris (Thoreson) and William. Read More	Cora Isabel Strand was born November 18, 1898, to Norwegian immigrants Syvert and Helena Strand on the Strand family farm on the North Dakota-Sounth Dakota State Line near Ellendale, ND. She was their youngest child having six older siblings, Emil, Henry, David, Solven, Conrad and Mabel (Ofstedal). Her mother died while she was a toddler and she later gained a stepmother, Maria, and step siblings, Agnes (Tveit) and Bert Helland and the half siblings Doris (Thoreson) and William. On May 30, 1918, Cora was United in marriage to Anton "Tony" Mellang and they made their home on Syvert's tree claim, raising dairy cows, chickens and small grains. They were the loving parents of Vivian (Schimke), Irene, Laurence, and Nona (Brauer), and the doting grandparents of Diane Schimke Day, Jill Schimke Determan, Cathy Schimke Lee, Calvin Schimke, Bradley Schimke, Craig Schimke, Pamela Brauer OBrien and James Brauer and the great-grandparents of 21. Cora was an excellent seamstress and cook, and sold eggs and dairy products on a regular basis to neighbors and townsfolk. She expertly hosted many family meals and events and was an active member at Aurdal Lutheran Church and then Christ the King Lutheran Church. She also wrote the State Line News for the Dickey County Leader for many decades. Cora and Tony celebrated 55 years of marriage before his death in 1973. She remained in their home for the remainder of her days.
