Read More	Cornie Moss Crushed Under Dump Truck Body Hydraulic Lift of Dump Truck Lets Go Cornie Moss of Hull, son of supervisor Ed Moss, was instantly killed Tuesday about 9:30 a.m., when the heavy dump truck body on his machine came down with a crash while he was attempting to make adjustments. His helper, Eddie Riepma, was also caught by the head but was reportedly not injured and was released when Bernie Scholten, also of Hull, drove up in another truck and used a caterpillar tractor to lift the heavy equipment off the two men. Apparently, nobody was in the immediate neighborhood of the accident when it ocurred. It is reported that Mr. Moss was hauling dirt in a twelve yard capacity dump truck to the Riphagen farm, a mile south and a mile west of Perkins. The hydraulic lift was not functioning properly and Cornie leaned under the body to make adjustments. The story here is that the hose connection to the lift came off and the heavy equipment came down with a crash, crushing him. Riepma escaped death because Moss' body caught the crushing weight of the machine. But Riepma was unable to free his head and he later said that the pressure was gradually getting heavier. He had to wait until the next trucker came up with a load of dirt before being freed. Bernie Scholten managed to lift the heavy equipment with a caterpillar tractor and clear Riepma and remove Moss' body. Dr. Gerrit Maris was called but death had been instantaneous. Mr. Moss was slightly over 38 years of age. He is survived by his wife and three children and his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Moss of Hull. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at Hull. Supervisor Moss was attending a board meeting in the court house here Tuesday morning, when he was notified of the tragedy. He was driven to Hul immediately by Hubert Muilenburg. Sioux County Capital 1949-04-07.
