He sent her so many letters and post cards during WWII it is easy to follow his love for her. This writer could not find her return letters, but she kept all of his. They married April 24, 1946. He was a young man of 25 when he enlisted in WWII, he was brought up in a french catholic household and I am not sure he knew what he would be involved in when he was made a medic and saw service at the Battle of the Bulge. This carefree young man who loved to laugh and have a good time returned a ghost of what he once was. He and my Auntie married, he went back to work in the mill, upon his return from the war, but their life was not to be. Everyone noticed the changes in him, he was seeing a Doctor for his recurring dreams of the battlefield and the nightmares that never ended. He took his own life and then my Auntie's life changed forever, he left no note. She received a widow's pension for the rest of her life, so obviously his death was treated as service connected. Today he would be in a hospital, treated with the drug of the day and reporting to see a psychiatrist to discuss his PTSD, no one understood it back then and so many soldiers either lived with the demons or took their lives, Uncle Arthur was the latter. They had no children, my Aunt never remarried and was permanently scarred by his death. I knew little of his family and if any of you find this web page please contact me as I have more pictures of him that I am more than happy to give to you all.
