Description	:	My mother's half sister, they shared the same mother but different fathers. My Grandfather Pat treated my mother as his own. Helen was the youngest of the 3 children, she was doted on. She began dating Uncle Arthur around 1940, shortly after my Uncle Philip was killed. She didn't work after their marriage and they lived in with my grandparents saving money as Uncle Arthur wanted to open a corner store. She began dating Uncle Arthur around 1940, shortly after my Uncle Philip was killed. She didn't work after their marriage and they lived in with my grandparents saving money as Uncle Arthur wanted to open a corner store. After his death in 1952 she remained with her parents, living with them until their deaths, she took care of them and then lived alone. After my father died my mother tried to get Auntie to live with her but she just couldn't seem to make the transition. She became somewhat of a recluse, my mother spending hours on the phone with her. She was a heavy smoker and often drank, but stopped smoking and drinking when her health became impaired, so she did have courage to stop those addictions at the same time. She became a little more social and started coming down with my mother to visit with all of us for the Holiday's, but it was a battle to get her here. She died the day before Thanksgiving 1976, deciding at the last minute not to make the trip down. This writer was at work when the call arrived from the Berlin, NH police department that a neighbor noticed she hadn't taken in the morning newspaper. He death was quick as the story was told that she seemed to die as she got out of bed and she had not been gone long when the police arrived. My mom and I immediately headed home to Berlin as my mother wanted to go the same day she arrived. The rest of the family arriving the next day. If anyone wants to understand life in a small town, Auntie's door had been kicked in by the police and it was old and didn't take much, but it couldn't be repaired. Mom and I went down to the hardware store to get a door and we were making arrangements to get it delivered immediately which couldn't be done. One of the residents of the town came to our aid, delivered and installed the door and refused any money for his efforts, he was a neighbor of Auntie's. We picked out a beautiful dark pink outfit for her and she looked so beautiful with her suit and makeup. Someone in the family noticed that she didn't have her glasses on so I put mine on her and forgot to take them back, kind of nice that she has a little family with her. We think of you often and miss you as we miss our Mom and Grammy and Grampa. Hope you and Uncle Arthur have found the love and peace you both deserve.
