Read More	Son of James and Agnes Lamb Haney. ===================== Obituary of Basil Haney The death angel passed over the home of Basil Haney, near Ruckersvllle, March 24, 1932, and claimed him as his victim, removing from that section a most highly respected citizen in the 90th year of his age. Mr. Haney lived near Lydia until he had passed the prime of life. Then he decided to move away and located near Ruckersville. He was an upright man of a genial disposition and had many friends everywhere he was known. He was a valiant churchman, held his membership at Temple Hill for many years and worked hard for the uplift of his church and community. He was steward and Sunday-school superintendent for a number of years and a staunch Methodist. Removing his membership to Westover several years after moving to his new home, he died in the same faith in which he was reared and loved to work for the Master's cause. Mr. Haney was a loyal Confederate soldier and enjoyed so much attending the reunions of the heroes of gray whenever possible. He belonged to Co. F, Seventh Virginia regiment, Kemper's brigade, Pickett's division, Longstreet's corps. Born April 17, 1842, Mr. Haney volunteered before he was of age, answering the call of the southland at the beginning of the civil conflict and valiantly served the four years to its end. Returning home after the surrender, he was married to Miss Sallie Deane in 1866. She preceded him to the grave seven years. To their union were born 12 children, Messrs. George A., Mark, Scott, Gaines, Howell and David Haney, Mrs. Elnora Deane, Mrs. Maggie Hensley and Mrs. Maude Hammer (these three deceased), Mrs. Isabelle C. Sheler (of Lydia) and Mrs. Anna Buckley (of Cleveland, Oh.). Mr. Haney is survived by eight of these children, 62 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. He was a very prosperous man, worked hard and left his children a heritage both financially and a pure life as an example for them to follow through life. His work being ended, it can truthfully be said of him, he has finished his course, he has fought a good fight, he has kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness. He was a man very firm in his conviction and will ever be missed by those with whom he came in contact. Funeral services were held Friday, March 25, at Westover church, conducted by his pastor, Rev. T. E. Johnson jr., after which he was laid to rest in Westover cemetery. The pall-bearers were his grandchildren, Harold Hensley, George B. Deane, Marvin, George, Elmer and Walter Haney. Flower girls were Hazel, Madeline and Glenna Haney. Mr. T. W. Stephens was the undertaker. The golden gates were opened wide, A gentle voice said come; And angels from the other side, Welcomed his spirit home. Far from this world of toil and strife, He is present with the Lord. Bazil Haney enlisted as Pvt., Co. F, 7th Virginia Infantry. He was promoted to Corp., 5/1/1862. He was wounded at Williamsburg, 5/5/1862, and at 2nd Manassas, 8/30/1862. Bazil was captured at Five Forks on 3/1/1865 and held as a Prisoner of War at Point Lookout, Md. until he took the Oath Of Allegiance to the U. S. on 6/13/1865.
