Greene County Record, Volume 13, Number 24, September 25, 1924 Mrs. Maggie H. Haney About 1 o'clock Saturday morning, Nov. 8, 1924, Mrs. Maggie Hensley passed peacefully into the great beyond. She was afflicted with cancer internally, and had been in bad health all this year. She was operated on at the University hospital, but the doctors there found her case hopeless from the first and advised her removal to her home, knowing the end was only a matter of time. Mrs. Hensley was born and raised near Lydia and in her early girlhood days made her peace with God and connected herself with the Methodist church at Temple Hill and lived a consecrated Christian life and was for some time a teacher in the Sunday school at her home church. She was married to Mr. Willie Hensley, of Rockingham, about 20 years ago and lived at Earlysville, Staunton and at the time of her death she was living in Louisa county, where he had purchased a farm. Mrs. Hensley was the daughter of Basil and Sallie Haney, who survive her. Besides her parents she is survived by her husband and three children, Lillian, Howell and Eva, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. D. C. Deane, Mrs. L. J Sheler, Mrs. Annie Buckley, Messrs George A., D. L., Scott, Gaines, Howell and David Haney to mourn her loss. After moving to Staunton she transferred her church membership to the United Brethren church, that being the nearest church to her home. She was buried at Temple Hill cemetery Sunday afternoon followed to her last resting place by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives. Funeral service was conducted in Temple Hill church by Rev. Mr. Stearns, U. B. pastor from Elkton, who made an impressive talk to the living and spoke of her pure life as being worth imitation. Flowers were profuse and the beautiful casket was literally covered. Mrs. Stearns conducted the music, and the following hymns were sung: "Rock of Ages," "Oh, Think of the Home Over There," and "Shall We Gather at the River." Mrs. Hensley was about 51 years old and was beloved by all who knew her and she has only gone before and exchanged her earthly habitation for a house not made with hands, where sickness and sorrow are known no more. She has passed away from those she loved To a land of light and bliss; She has gone to a world where she feels no more The ills she had felt in this. She has gone to join the happy throng That c'ose by the Savior stand; She has passed away from the care of life To wait in the Spirit land. But lets not think of her as dead Just waiting over Yonder; In that fair land of joy and peac Of Glory over Yonder. We will see her smile again some day, His promise still rings true; She has left her loved ones a little while, And is waiting for them up there.
