He was a member of Prentiss Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School where he played football in 1951 and 1952. He was a member of Prentiss Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School where he played football in 1951 and 1952. He was a former member of the Biltmore Kiwanis Club in Asheville and the Capital City Kiwanis Club in Raleigh. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Loretta Jarvis Sanders; a son, Charles Allen Sanders of Oxford, Miss.; a daughter, Shelley Sanders Foley of Raleigh; seven sisters, Willa S. Stiles of Battle Creek, Mich., Elura Bell S. Walters of Atlanta, Ga., Edith S. Conley of Franklin, Margaret S. Harrison of Virginia, Betty S. Owens of Charlotte, Olivia S. Reese of Anderson, S.C., and Amelia S. Trull of Edneyville; five brothers; Harris L. Sanders of Flat Rock, Jesse L. Sanders, Jr. of Asheville, John Q. Sanders of Franklin, Jimmie H. Sanders of Franklin and Timothy Sanders of Asheville, and three granddaughters. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 11, in the Prentiss Baptist Church. Rev. Gene Bohner officiated. Burial was in the Prentiss Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Prentiss Baptist Church cemetery fund, c/o Faye Wilson, 605 Middle Skeenah Rd., Franklin.
