Srb Friday evening from the army department, officially notifying them that their son, CpL Rodney (Knute) Srb, had been killed action in Korea on June 27. No details were given in message, which stated that a confirming letter will follow. It was shocking news to entire community, in which young man had spent practically his entire life before entering the service in September, 1950. He trained with the Oklahoma 45th National Guard division for five months at Camp Polk, La., and went with his division overseas last fall to Hokkaido, northernmost island of Japan, for intensive training of the division. The division, a crack unit, was shipped to Korea on Dec. 14, 1951 while it has been in hard, continuous action in recent months. CPL, RODNEY SRB V . " Knute" was a machine gunner in the 179th Infantry. Recently he had recovered from a siege of pneumonia, after being sent from Korea to a hospital in Japan. It was from there that he called his parents from Tokyo a few weeks ago, after his release from the hospital before being shipped back to the fighting front in Korea. He was due to be rotated back to the United States, on the point system, in only a few days at the time of his death. Surviving hint beside his parents is his sister (Janet) Mrs. Joseph F. Bicak of Lincoln. Rodney Lee Srb was born at Omaha on May 8,1928. He was yet an infant when his parents moved to Dodge, where his father established his medical practice. Attending school here,, he graduated from Dodge High School and later attended Creighton University for two -years and The University of Nebraska for two years. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Dodge. His warm, friendly, personality made him a popular youth in this community, and is a lithe, young athlete he was well known in sports circles, particularly, in baseball His death is mourned by , countless friends, who extend their heartfelt sympathy to the grieving family and his fiancée.
