Description	:	On Dec. 22, 1980 brother Coy C. Johnson passed from this life. Though he is not widely known in the brotherhood, he was one of the outstanding men of his time. He spent his entire life in the community of Scotts Hill, Tenn., a small and secluded township in West Tennessee with a history that dates back over 150 years. For 51 years he was a rural mail carrier, starting back when delivery was made on horseback. Johnson passed from this life. Though he is not widely known in the brotherhood, he was one of the outstanding men of his time. He spent his entire life in the community of Scotts Hill, Tenn., a small and secluded township in West Tennessee with a history that dates back over 150 years. For 51 years he was a rural mail carrier, starting back when delivery was made on horseback. This gave him an unusual acquaintance with the community, and to many on his route, he was about their only contact with town. He bought and delivered many items besides the mail for people on his route. Also, he became a Christian early in his life, and through the influence of N. B. Hardeman and L. L. Brigance (he was from Scotts Hill) he began to preach. Through his contact with people in rural areas, he converted many to Christ. Through his efforts three congregations in the area were established, two of them are active today. He was a fine musician and song leader as well as a preacher. He gave strength and stability to the church at Scotts Hill. In 1945 he was appointed an elder and faithfully served in that capacity until his death. He was quiet, gentle and genuine--tremendous influence for good in the community. Though he was a loyal government employee, a preacher, a farmer, a politician, an elder, a song leader, he always had time to encourage young people in the faith. A family of four faithful sons reflect the influence of a godly father. His lovely wife Grace still lives in the homeplace at Scotts Hill. This man was a blessing to me in many ways. --J.
