Sister Johnson had requested, if she preceded him in death, that her cousin, Larimore Austin have a part in the service. Brother Austin, son of the late C.S. Austin, was born and reared in Scotts Hill. Brother Whittle had served the local congregation for 17 years until Brother Claiborne came in 1981. She was 84 when she died and baptized in 1913. She was married to Brother Johnson early in 1923. A church leader, Bible teacher and preacher himself for a half century, he operated one of the county's finest farms, carried the R.F.D. mail for a record number of years on one of the Nation's longest routes. Relatives, friends and this whole town planned a big "Coy Johnson Day" a few years before his death in 1979. The large school auditorium overflowed with admirers of the Johnsons and many tributes and special gifts came. Sister Johnson came from a long line of "Christian blood." Her father was W.A. Austin, stalwart leader in the local congregation and elder for nearly 50 years. His father, Benj. F. Austin and his brother-in-law, Jesse Holmes, established the church in Scotts Hill in 1872. It has not missed a Sunday worship service during its long existence. Four sons of the Johnson's are now in middle life and all are leaders in the congregation where they worship. All are married and have families. The writer had the rare privilege of performing the wedding ceremonies for three of the Johnson "boys" and was to have done the fourth but was prevented by the death of his mother-in-law in another state at the time. It seems to be and is in a very real way, a great loss to a community as its leaders die. But it is sweet to know that such good influence never dies.
