"Mrs. LaVern" (Brierley) Wolken was born on Friday; February 1, 1924, on the family farm east of Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Gertrude (Shahan) Brierley. Beth graduated from the Marshalltown High School's Class of 1942. Later she enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where she served proudly for two years during World War II. She received the rank of Corporal and was stationed in aircraft mechanics. On Sunday; July 7, 1946, in Marshalltown, Iowa she was united in marriage to LaVern Wolken. They made Marshalltown, Iowa their home where she was employed with Fisher Controls and later Marshalltown Instruments for approximately 26 years. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church. Beth will be fondly remembered for her love of family, bowling, fishing and family activities such as softball games with her grandchildren. Beth V. "Mrs. LaVern" (Brierley) Wolken, age 81, passed away on Thursday; December 1, 2005 at her home while in care of her family and the Iowa River Hospice. Those left to mourn her passing are: her loving husband of 59 years: LaVern at home. Her four daughters: Connie (Bill) Coyne of Dike; Black Hawk County, Iowa. Lynn (David) Drury of Marshalltown, Iowa. Kim Wolken of Marshalltown, Iowa and Terri (Greg) Stalzer of Marshalltown, Iowa. Her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Her sister: Jean (Bob) Brasch of Marshalltown, Iowa. Her sister's-in-law: Betty Brierley in California. Gladys Zink of Laurel; Marshall County, Iowa. Geraldine Hartwig of State Center; Marshall County, Iowa. Marvel Stalzer of Marshalltown, Iowa and Helen Wolken of Nevada; Story County, Iowa. As well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death she has rejoined her parents, her brother: Don Brierley and her sister: Lela (Eugene) Gazaway. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday; December 2, 2005 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday; December 3, 2005 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Daniel Johnson officiating. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Dillon; Marshall County, Iowa. For those desiring, memorial contributions in Beth's honor may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
