Because of the dangers from hostile indians, their stay in this county was short and they moved to Cedar County, Iowa, March 26, 1866. Here he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Betzer, (Elizabeth Jane Betzer) who preceded him in death October 22, 1917. Read More	~0bit~John Milton Peyton was born in Clark County, Indiana, September 20, 1845. At the age of three years he moved with his parents to Fayette County, Indiana. Because of the dangers from hostile indians, their stay in this county was short and they moved to Cedar County, Iowa, March 26, 1866. Here he was united in marriage to Miss Lizzie Betzer, (Elizabeth Jane Betzer) who preceded him in death October 22, 1917. At the age of 17 years, Mr. Peyton entered the service of his country in Company K, sixth Iowa calvalry and in this company he served three years and one month. He was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Corporal at Sioux City, October 17, 1865. Mr. Peyton has been in poor health for over a year and passed away Wednesday, October 5. He leaves to mourn his departure five daughters: Mrs. Alberta Butterfield, of Waterloo; Miss Cora Peyton, of Walker, Mrs. Hattie Oliphant of Independence; Mrs. Jessie Oliphant, of Walker, and Mrs. Carrie Johnston, of Cedar Rapids. Besides these, there are twenty-six grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. J. W. Booth, of Cushing, Iowa. Burial services were held in the Christian Church on Sunday, October 9 with Rev. Clark officiating. John Milton Peyton was born the son of Phillip Peyton and Lucretia Jane Lott. Phillip is buried in Upper Spring Grove with his second wife. John served in the service twice during the Civil War. John was married to Elizabeth Jane Betzer on March 26, 1866 in Buchanan County, Iowa. They were parents of eight children: Alberta Luella Peyton Butterfield buried this cemetery; Fanny Peyton buried Lower Spring Grove cemetery; Cora May Peyton buried this cemetery; Hattie Peyton born August 21, 1875 Linn County, Iowa married Earl Wesley Oliphant and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein, Iowa; Jessie Peyton married Leslie James Oliphant buried this cemetery; Irvin Peyton born Riverton, Nebraska died age about two years when doctor gave him wrong medication and no stone was found around Riverton, Nebraska but in the 1880 cencus they lived at Webster, Walnut Creek, Nebraska ; Caroline Peyton married Thomas Emery Johnson buried this cemetery; Infant son birth date unknown and not sure where he is buried but may be Lower Spring Grove.
