Read More	ROBERT OLAFSON KILLED IN ACTION IN SOUTH PACIFIC Corporal Robert Edwin Olafson was born on Aug. 16, 1922 at Lisbon, North Dakota, and died on Sept. 27, 1944 of wounds received on Palau Island, and was buried at sea, age 22 years, 1 month and 11 days. Robert came with his parents to Silver Creek, Nebr. during the year of 1928. He went through all twelve grades of the Silver Creek school, graduating from the High School in 1941. He was a good student. He usually had a leading part, and always played his part well, especially in plays. From July, 1941 until March, 1942 Robert was employed by the Byrd Lumber Company of Shreveport, Louisiana, during which time he made his home with his brother, Captain Thomas A. Fleek at Barksdale Field, Louisiana. During the month of March, 1942 he came back to Silver Creek, Nebr. where he remained until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in October, 1942. He was first stationed at Camp Pendleton, California until April, 1943, when he was sent overseas with the First Division to Australia. He later saw action in New Guinea and took part in the battle of Cape Gloucester, New Britain. On Oct. 4, 1942 Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, and answered the solemn vows of the Church. He was an honest and industrious young man, and was esteemed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jens Olafson; three brothers, Captain Thomas A. Fleek of Dalhart Army Air Field, Dalhart, Texas; Calvin Olafson of Camp Irwin, Calif.; Glenn Olafson of Silver Creek; also two sisters Hazel and Glennis Olafson of Silver Creek, Nebraska along with many other relatives and friends. Memorial funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1944 at two o'clock at the Methodist Church in Silver Creek, Nebr. by Rev. H.F. Beebe. Music was rendered by Mrs. Mabel Towslee and Mrs. John Vitamvas with Miss Kathleen White at the piano. Veterans of World War I who attended the services in a body were John Vitamvas, James Regan, G.E. Hutchison, James Stanczyk, Roy Kinney and Sam Bordy. Service men of the present was in attendance were Pfc. Steve Kubas, Pfc. Jack Bryant, Corp. Karl Cutsor, Pfc. Roy Mason, Lt. James Jackson, and Corp. Charles Gentleman. Presentation of a flag to the bereaved mother was made by Pfc. Jack Bryant of the Marines. Relatives from away who were here to attend the memorial service included: His father, Jens Olafson of Hanna, Wyo., his brother, Capt. Arthur Fleek and wife of Dalhart, Texas; Sgt. Calvin Olafson of Camp Irwin, Calif., Miss Hazel Olafson, of Fremont; his grandmother Mrs. Chas. Juranek of Schulyer; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Janecek of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Anderson and son Walter of Omaha; Mrs. Alice Cink of Wahoo; Mrs. John Macholan, of Wahoo; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Woods of Beaver Crossing; Mrs. Beulah Scofield of Seward, Nebr.
