Maynard Bartlett, 82, of rural Manly, died Jan. 31, 1990, at home of natural Causes. Mr. Bartlett was born Oct. 15, 1907, in Elburn, 111., to Henry A. and Thursa (Aylward) Bartlett. The family moved to Manly in 1914. He was a 1926 graduate of Manly High School, attended Westmar College in LeMars for two years and also was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Bartlett worked in Des Moines for Swift and Co. and with the Farmers Co-op Telephone Co. He was a member of the Army Reserve Corps. He returned to Manly in 1939 and enlisted in the Army in 1940. He was a captain In an anti-aircraft unit. He served In North Africa and Anzio Beachhead in Italy during World War II and in the Occupational Forces in Germany. He returned to Manly in 1945. On Jan. 1, 1942, he married Dorothy Rogers in San Diego, Calif. The couple farmed on the home place, north of Manly, and he semi-retired in 1970. He continued to do custom silo-filling until 1987 and sold seed corn for 15 years. Mr. Bartlett was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manly, Manly Lions Club, Worth County Farm Bureau and American Dairy Association. He was a life member of the American Legion Edwarda-Tosel Post 110, Manly. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, rural Manly; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Elaine) Heiberger, Ames; three grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Bartlett, Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Albert (Elsie) Mueller, Manly; and one brother, John, Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by one brother and his parents.
