To continue his... Read More	William Hunter Grigg Virginia Beach - Captain William Hunter Grigg, United States Navy, retired, passed away February 28, 2016 in Virginia Beach, Va at the age of 90. Bill was born on May 1, 1925 in Purdy, VA to his late parents, Marion Lee Grigg, Sr. and Pat Lou Neville Grigg. He graduated from Greensville County High School in Emporia, Va. He entered the armed forces when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He received a congressional appointment to the United States Naval Academy in 1946 and graduated in 1950. To continue his military studies, he attended the US Naval Postgraduate School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Later, he earned an MBA degree from George Washington University. His naval carrier included sea duty on destroyers,amphibious cruiser division staff, aircraft carriers and a cruiser. His tours ashore included numerous staff positions, one being Chief of the Navy Division Defense Attache' office in Saigon. He closed the Navy Division and was evacuated from Saigon when it fell in April of 1975. His last duty station was commanding officer of Fleet Corps Group II at Little Creek Amphibious Base until October 1,1978 when he retired after 28 years of dedicated service as a naval officer. He was a real estate agent in Norfolk, VA for a number of years then returned to Emporia to establish Grigg Realty with his brother, Irvin. They also formed a construction and development corporation. He kept the corporation but closed the real estate firm in 1999 and moved to Virginia Beach. He was an active member of the Virginia Beach-Combers Kiwanis organization. He is survived by his loving wife, of 64 years, Kathryn T. Poarch Grigg, known to most people as "Sye" of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by a son, Jon R. Grigg, MD and his wife Susan of Wellsboro, PA, a daughter, Judie A. Grigg of Norfolk, VA, three grandchildren , Sarah Harrison Grigg, William Hunter Grigg II and Michael Taylor Grigg. Other survivors include his brother, Charles Irvin Grigg, Sr. and his wife, Bette of Emporia as well as numerous niecec and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lucille G. Goodwyn, Charlotte G. Watkins, and Virginia G. Griffin, all from Emporia, two brothers, Walter A. Grigg, Sr. of Roanoke Va and Marion Lee Grigg,Jr. and his wife Josephine of Suffolk,Va. Bill will rest peacefully knowing that in time he will be joined by the love of his life, Sye.
