Read More	Curtis James Mantey of Port Orchard Jul. 7, 1950 to Mar. 21, 2009 The life of Curtis Mantey was a daily record of the love of our merciful and gracious God. Curtis James Mantey was the gift of God, born July 7th, 1950, in Norfolk, NE to Alfred and Irene (Ellenberger) Mantey. The Holy Spirit brought Curtis into His family of believers through the washing of rebirth in Holy Baptism on July 30th, 1950 as he was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Curt confessed faith in our LORD Jesus publicly after instruction in God's Word at his confirmation also at St. Paul's of Norfolk on May 24th, 1964. God grounded Curt with a firm foundation of Christian education at St. Paul's Lutheran Elementary School before he graduated from Dr. Martin Luther Academy in 1968. Curt continued to pursue his Christian education and graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in 1972 with a degree in education, dedicating his life to ensuring that others received the same blessing of Christian education that God and his parents afforded him. So he could best serve his students with the gifts God had given him, Curt earned his Master's of Science and Education from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD in 1975. He was assigned to Zion Lutheran in Mobridge, SD to teach grades 5-8 and serve as principal. It was there that he met and married one of God's greatest earthly gifts to him, Barbara Lynn Bobrofsky, who taught grades 1-4. The Lord united them in marriage in Ixonia, WI on August 3rd, 1974. As a teacher, Curt served God's church in Mobridge, SD, St. John's, Antigua, Belle Plaine, MN, and finally Port Orchard, WA for the past 18 years. The Lord blessed Curt with a special interest in and love for music, art and learning. His real passions were his Savior, his family and serving all God's children. His passion, embodied in Christian education, lives on in his six children who have or are pursuing degrees in Lutheran education. God the Holy Spirit nurtured Curt's faith in Jesus our Savior with His Word and Sacrament as a member of the family of faith at Bethany Lutheran Church and School. The Holy Spirit enabled Curt to put his musical gifts to use to God's glory there as a member of their choir and would often edify worship with his guitar. Curt knew the certainty of Jesus' promise of forgiveness of all his sins, God's gracious presence with him, and our Savior's promise of eternal life in heaven for all who trust in Him. Last Saturday, March 21st, 2009, Curt heard Jesus' voice calling his soul out of this world to his eternal rest in the unending joy of heaven. His soul departed this life to be with our Lord while in his home, experiencing more than 58 years of God's mercy and blessing in this life. Curt leaves the following to hope in the certainty of the resurrection to the eternal life of heaven and a blessed reunion there: his wife, Barb; his children Melissa & Tony Pittenger of Port Orchard, WA, Kari & James Hahm of Manitowoc, WI, Stacey & Scott Hill of Lake Havasu, AZ, Jessica & Cleveland Upton of Manhattan, KS, Kristin Mantey of Winston-Salem, NC and Aaron Mantey of Port Orchard, WA; his mother, Irene of Norfolk, NE; his father and mother-in-law Harold & Jeannette Bobrofsky of Ixonia, WI; siblings Marla & Kenneth Austin of Wayne, NE; and Tamara and Daniel Shaffer of Colmar, PA; eleven grandchildren: Lena, Micah, Jack & Nika Pittenger, Isaiah, Lydia, Mary and Paul Hahm, Eoghan and Cashlin Hill and Baby Upton and seven nieces and nephews. Curt was reunited in heaven with his father Alfred, his brother Doug, and his grandchildren Heidi, Ethan, Charis, along with the rest of the host arrayed in white. Rejoice with us at his victory celebration on Friday, March 27, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Church and School 151 Tremont St. in Port Orchard. Viewing is from 10:30-12:30 and the service begins at 1:00 with interment following at Forest Lawn at 3:30 and a potluck and fellowship back at Bethany. Memorials in Curt's name will be used to help those who could not otherwise afford Christian education at Bethany Lutheran Elementary School and at Evergreen Lutheran High School in Des Moines.
