Mr. Patrick was born in Jefferson County, Kansas, December 5, 1874, and is a son of Albert Gallatin Patrick and Mary (Frazier) Patrick. Curtis S. Patrick gained his early education in the public schools of Oskaloosa and Topeka, in which latter city he attended the old Jackson Street School and also Pond's Business College. In his father's newspaper office he learned the printer's trade, and thereafter he was a journeyman printer for some time, employed in various printing establishments in Missouri and Illinois. Under his father he thereafter served as deputy postmaster of Oskaloosa, and he then did field work for the Dawes Commission in the classifying and appraising of Indian lands of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations in Oklahoma, where he remained three years. Upon his return to Oskaloosa he became deputy county treasurer, Hon. John N. Johnson, now state senator from Douglas Couty, having then been treasurer of Jefferson County. After his retirement from this position, Mr. Patrick passed two years in Los Angeles, California, where he conducted a grocery store on the site of the present large Robinson mercantile establishment. He became also the owner of land at Redondo Beach. Upon his return to Kansas he became assistant cashier of the Oskaloosa State Bank, and two years later he resigned to accept the position of deputy county clerk, which he retained two years. During the ensuing three years he was under-sheriff of Jefferson Counry, and thus his total service at the court house of the county covered a peiod of ten years. In 1912 Mr. Patrick acquired a half interest in the Oskaloosa Telephone Exchange, of which he is now the sole owner. This exchange has full service in Oskaloosa, his about fifty miles of toll lines and a large mileage of rural lines. Mr. Patrick is a stalwart in the ranks of the Republican party, was for many years secretary of the Republican county committee of Jefferson County, and has frequently been a delegate to conventions of the party, his first presidential vote having been cast for William McKinley. In the World war period Mr. Patrick was zealous in forwarding patriotic activities in his home city and county, especially in Red Cross drives and the Seven-in-One drive for auxiliary war funds. He is a member of the Landstrum, is a Knight Templar and Shrine Mason, and as a citizen and man of affairs he is well upholding the high honors attaching to the family name in the state of Kansas. At Oskaloosa, November 11, 1896, Mr. Patrick was united in marriage with Miss Ella Huddleston, who was born at Granite City, Illinois, but reared and educated in Oskaloosa, Kansas, her father, William H. Huddleston having been one of the early settlers of Jefferson County. Dorothy, eldest of the children of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick, is the wife of George Frisbie, of Grantville, Kansas, and they have three children: George Patrick, Herbert and Catherine. Miss Ruth, the second daughter, was graduated from the Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia, and is now teacher of physical education in the high school at Atchison, this state. Mary Josephine, a graduate of the Oskaloosa High School, is an efficient assistant of her father in the office affairs of his telephone business. William, youngest of the children, is, in 1927, a member of the freshman class in the local high school.
