Description	:	Curtiss Elwood Hemby Sr., 73, of Pittsburg, passed away at 2:05 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born March 27, 1940, to Norman and Margaret (Burch) Hemby at Pittsburg, KS. He went to school in Pittsburg until his senior year when he enlisted in the Marine Corp. Mr. Hemby served from 1957 to 1960. He worked in the oil fields in western Kansas. He worked at McNally's from 1978 until it closed and then at Producers Co-op until his retirement in 1996. Mr. Hemby was married from 1962-1964. He was then married from 1967-1983. On July 21, 1989, he was united in marriage to Shirley Kay Johns-Wallace. She survives of the home. In addition to his wife, he is survived by siblings, two daughters, six sons, 38 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. There are many more kids that called him Dad or Pops. A service for Mr. Hemby is set for 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, with Pastor Larry DeOrnellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery, Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Brenner Mortuary. The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association and/or Ronald McDonald House. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 East 4th St., Pittsburg, KS 66762.
