Dakota was born July 7, 1920, at Wessington Springs, South Dakota, the daughter of Sam and Waunita (Sommers) Fry of Canning, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Charrlin September 14, 1938. To this union, four children were born. They resided in Pierre, South Dakota, later moving to Anthon in 1951. Lawrence died in 1954. In 1955, Dakota married Carey James Drossel, a farmer from Anthon. He died November 28, 1979. As a Master Gardener in the 1960s and 1970s, Dakota owned and operated Dakota's Flower Box in Anthon, a floral shop and art center where she also taught arts and crafts. Dakota was a loving mother and grandmother and a friend to many. Survivors include all 7 of her children, Clara Charrlin Lea of Rapid City, South Dakota; Larry and his wife Debbie Charrlin of Chicago, Illinois; Carolyn Charrlin Cole of Gillette, Wyoming; David Charrlin of Chicago, Illinois; Carey and his wife Valerie Drossel of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Doug Drossel and Jacque Drossel, both of Anthon; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyll Fry of Bellevue, Washington, and Sam Fry of Pleasanton, California, two sisters, Zelpha Bonta of Los Angeles, California, and Beverly Hillmer of Rapid City, South Dakota, along with several other relatives, neighbors and good friends. Dakota was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and one brother, Marvin Fry. Memorials may be sent to the Anthon School District Art Department.
