Description	:	Funeral services for Dale Hilkemeier, 77, of Creighton were held Friday, June 11, 2003 at Zion Lutheran church in Creighton. Reverend Dwight Albers officiated the 2 p.m. service with interment in the Greenwood Cemetery in Creighton. Military Honors were given by the Veterans of Foreign Wars #1151 and the American Legion #74. Dale Hilkemeier, son of Louie and Blanche (Stingley) Hilkemeier, was born September 18, 1925 on a farm southwest of Bloomfield. Dale Hilkemeier, son of Louie and Blanche (Stingley) Hilkemeier, was born September 18, 1925 on a farm southwest of Bloomfield. He attended rural Bloomfield school and after moving to Creighton in 1938, attended Creighton Public School. He married Shirley Schultz on December 18, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Plainview. He was blessed with 50 years of marriage with a family celebration this past December 2002. Three children were born to them, Timothy, Debra and Juli. Dale was a lifetime resident of Knox County. He worked for a contractor in 1947, building REA power lines in Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa. In 1951 he entered the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, he returned to Creighton and began his 36 year employment with North Central Public Power District, retiring in 1987. After his retirement, he drove a school bus and worked for Creighton Livestock Market and Kehne Fertilizer. He, then, enjoyed his garden work, which he was doing when he was stricken with the heart attack, which caused his death. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, American Legion #74 and the Senior Citizens of Creighton. Dale found enjoyment talking with friends over coffee each morning at the local coffee shop. He also enjoyed watching all the sports activities. Dale passed away July 7, 2003 at Creighton Area Health Services at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, Shirley, a son, Timothy of LaGrand, OR; two daughters and their husbands, Deb and Wally Sukup of Creighton and Juli and David Gummere of McCook; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; three sisters, Eloise Poppe and her husband, Harvey of Bloomfield, Helen Hoffart and husband, Merle of Plainview, Delores Tharnish and her husband, John of Lincoln; a brother, Donald and his wife, Grace of San Antonio, TX and in-laws, Paul Ellingson, Gene and Janice Cromwell and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Delbert, brother, Robert; sisters, Ruth Poppe, Alyce Ellingston and Betty Cromwell.
