Description	:	Dallas C. Voran, 82, died Thursday (Oct. 24, 2002) at Kidron Bethel Village in North Newton. He was born July 29, 1920, to Fred and Edna (Graber) Voran on a farm near Belmont. He was born July 29, 1920, to Fred and Edna (Graber) Voran on a farm near Belmont. They preceded him in death. He attended Belmont Schools, graduating from Belmont High School in 1938. He attended Bethel College in North Newton, majoring in music. He graduated in 1943. He worked in Civilian Public Service in Florida and Mississippi from 1943 to 1946. He served with the Mennonite Central Committee for 10 years. During his service he was loaned to Church World Service and sent to China in 1946 to coordinate shipments of food, clothing, medical equipment, etc., for distribution to refugees. In 1951, he was loaned to the United Nations for relief in Korea. He later received his master's degree in social science from the University of Minnesota and the University of Chicago. He worked most of his 40-year career for the State Department Agency for International Development in the Far East. His tours of duty took him to Laos, Thailand, India, Bangladesh and the Philippines, as well as an assignment in the Washington, D.C. AID office working with refugee populations, community development and population control. After retiring in 1985 he accepted seven short-term consultations to the Mauritius Islands, Zambia, Liberia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania. He was a member of Kingman Mennonite Church. Survivors include: a brother, Paul Voran of Hutchinson; two sisters, Mary Gaeddert of North Newton and Helen Voth of Newton; 14 nieces and nephews; and many friends. He also was preceded in death by: a brother, Robert Voran; and a niece and a nephew. Memorial service was Saturday at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton with the Rev. Heidi Regier Kreider officiating. A cremation has taken place at Kensington Gardens Crematory in Wichita. Memorials have been established with Bethel College and Kidron Bethel Village, both in care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
