Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield. Dallas Hawke was born Aug. 14, 1910, in Franklin County, on a dairy farm outside of Sheffield. He was the son of James and Rose (Krusemark) Hawke. He received his education in the Sheffield school system and attended Iowa State College in Ames., where he took a course in animal husbandry. He then became a D.H.I.A. supervisor in Humboldt County for the college. On Feb. 3, 1934, he was united in marriage to Ione Thomas of Sheffield. They rented a farm on the southwest corner of Sheffield, better known as City Edge Dairy Farm, which they operated from March 1934, until March of 1956. On Feb. 9, 1957, he married Ruby Hudson and moved into a house in Sheffield. In 1965, he and Ruby moved to Howard County to help their son-in-law farm. In 1972, they moved to a retirement house on the north side of Cedar Lake in Nashua, where they enjoyed boating and fishing. On April 1, 1976, they assumed management of the Allison Dairy Sweet, eventually purchased the business and owned it for approximately 15 years. In 1990, they sold their business and moved to Dumont for their retirement in 1997. Dallas is survived by his wife, Ruby of Dumont; two step-daughters, Patricia Miller and her husband, Gene, of Dumont, and Priscilla Jones and her husband, Brian, of Fort Dodge; 14 step-grandchildren; 22 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Doris Foell of Sheffield, Arlene Schrupp of Sheffield, and Maxine Jensen of Clarion; and one sister-in-law, Marjorie Hawke of Mason City. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Melvin.
