Description	:	Daniel Boerstler was one of the last children born to Daniel Sr. & Margaretha Rebecca (Kehler) Boerstler. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, MD. Thru the 1840's (perhaps earlier), the family resided in Madison, Fairfield County, OH. However, Daniel Sr died in 1848 and Rebecca a decade later in 1858. 13 March 1851, Daniel Jr. married Lavina Warner in Fairfield County, OH. However, Daniel Sr died in 1848 and Rebecca a decade later in 1858. 13 March 1851, Daniel Jr. married Lavina Warner in Fairfield County, OH. From 1856 on, they resided in Washington, Van Buren County, Iowa. The Couple was married about 56 years until they both died in 1907. They had 6 daughters: Susanna "Anna", Roseline, Mary E. Henry, Florence Emma Junk, Bertha & Lena May; 2 sons: Charles H. & Ira L. Boerstler. Daniel was a farmer thru-out his life. In the 1880 Federal Non-Population/Agricultural Census, his farm was described as 132 acres along with buildings, implements & stock worth $6425.00. This was the hey-day of family farming in America. By 1900, none of their children lived with them or were involved in their farm. JT Justina Vickerman very kindly shared this obituary: OBITUARY OF DANIEL BOERSTLER AND WIFE ------------------------ Daniel Boerstler was born Jan. 22, 1828, near Hagerstown, Maryland. His parents died while he was a small boy and Daniel having an uncle living in Fairfield Co., Ohio, went there to live and there made his home until he grew to manhood. Lavina Warner was born Sept. 7, 1832, in Fairfield Co., Ohio. She was the third daughter of Jonas and Susanna Warner. She was married to Daniel Boerstler March 13, 1851, and they emigrated overland [sic] to Iowa in the autumn of that year, and settled on a farm near Pierceville, Van Buren county, where they lived until 1900, when they moved to their late residence in Utica. They were both instantly killed by a railway train one and one half miles north of Keosauqua, Iowa, July 4, 1907. Daniel was 79 yrs., 5 mos. and 12 days old, and Lavina was 74 yrs, 9 mos. and 29 days of age at the time of her death. There were born to them eight children, all living except Anna Nixon, who died in Kansas, Oct. 24, 1886. Those living are Charles Boerstler of Oregon, M. Rosaline Work of Cantril, Io., Mary Eveline Henry of Creston, Io., Florence Emma Junk, South Dakota, Ira L. Boerstler of Pierceville, Io., Bertha Ellen Rehkopf of California, and Lena May Anson of California. There are also living 17 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren. They united with the M. E. church at Utica, Iowa, soon after its organization and continued in the faith until they were called home. A loving father and mother have been taken away and they will be sadly missed by the entire community where they lived so many years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. T. S. Pool of Fairfield assisted by Rev. Jones of Bonaparte, and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at Miller Chapel.
