Description	:	Daniel was the son of Benjamin Minturn and Mary E Reeder. His parents lived in Ohio and later moved to Illinois. Daniel was born in Mason Co, IL (per Footnote Civil War Service Records). His mother died in Illinois when he was a young boy. The family later moved to Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Daniel and his brother William were veterans of the Civil War. Daniel was a farmer when enlisted in Bellevue, Nebraska, as a Private on 17 Oct 1862 at the age of 22 years. Daniel was born in Mason Co, IL (per Footnote Civil War Service Records). His mother died in Illinois when he was a young boy. The family later moved to Pottawattamie County, Iowa. Daniel and his brother William were veterans of the Civil War. Daniel was a farmer when enlisted in Bellevue, Nebraska, as a Private on 17 Oct 1862 at the age of 22 years. He enlisted in Co D 2nd Nebraska Cavalry on 3 Nov 1862. The 2nd Nebraska Cavalry was organized to protect the pioneers of the Nebraska and Dakota territory from bands of hostile Indians. There were over 1300 men in the 2nd Nebraska Cavalry and they spent their entire enlistment in the Dakota area fighting the Sioux Indians. On 31 Sep 1863 they fought over 1000 Indian warriors in the bloody battle of White Stone Hill, defeating the Indians. The regiment disbanded at Omaha, Nebraska. Daniel mustered out on 23 Dec 1863. Daniel's brother, William, died from typhoid fever in 1863. Daniel married Emma Caroline Wood on 9 Dec 1864 in Harrison County, Iowa. They had the following children: William, Marion, Charles, Mary, Lena, James, and Clara. William died in 1873 at the young age of 7 years. Three of their children died from diptheria within one week of each other in Jan 1880: Charles age 11, Mary age 8 and Lena age 5. Daniel died in 1905 at the age of 65 years 1 month.
