Was found by Mrs. Hogan prominently known in Farley and surrounding community, Farley, Iowa, Sept. 27 - Special to the Commercial. This community was shocked and grief stricken to hear of the sudden death of Mr. Dan Hogan, one of our well known, respected and prominent citizen. Mr. Hogan had been enjoying the best of health and this morning, as Usual, got up started the kitchen fire and was going through his usual routine of morning work, when he was suddenly stricken. Hi received a stroke, it is supposed, shortly after he rose which was about five o'clock as he was found lying on the floor in the kitchen near the stove, by Mrs. Hogan about seven o'clock and indications showed he had passed away some time before. Deceased was 72 years of age and was born in the 1847 in the County Limerick, Ireland. He came to this country with his parents, when but three years of age, the family settling in Dubuque County where received his education and grew to manhood. In 1874 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Hoover, at Farley, and soon thereafter the couple went to housekeeping on a farm south of Farley, where he followed the pursuits of agriculture, with success. About three years ago the family moved to Farley, which place has since been their home. Deceased is survived by his wife, five sons, Dan and John of Farle y, Dr. Frank of Bigelow, Mo. Dr. Joseph, of Oregon, Mo. Dr. Leo, Second Lieutenant, Veterinary Corps, stationed in South Carolina. Four daug hters, Mrs. Herman Klein, Mrs. Eugene Stroh of Eckelton. S. Dakota, Cecelia and Gertrude at home. Also one brother John of Farley; two sisters, Mrs Ellen Keefe of Farley, Mrs. Mary Brown, Acme, Iowa. Funeral arrangements at time of going to press have not been made. The news of the sudden death of this prominent, well known and respected citizen, was received with universal regret in this city and community where he has resided practically all of his life. Deceased always took a prominent part in movements, which meant for the betterment and upbuilding of the Country. He was progressive, public spirited, ambitious and was very succes sful in the pursuit of agriculture, which was his life's work, assisting greatly in the development of this great state of Iowa from its primitive state to one of the best agriculture communities in this country. As a friend and neighbor he was always ready to give a helping hand. H is home life was ideal, a kind and considerate husband and father, always looking after the welfare and comforts of those near and dear to him. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their hour of sorrow.
