Pettit, 93 Final rites for Daniel Isaac Pettit were held from the Reimer funeral home in Grand Junction Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. C. A. Hall officiated. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Krieger sang two duets. Casket bearers were Alvis Young, Allen Collins, Edd Hoover, Charles Humphrey, Roy Jewett and Louis Kreiger. Interment was in the Grand Junction cemetery. Daniel Isaac Pettit, youngest of nine children, was born to Andrew and Mary Pettit on April 29, 1856 in a log cabin in Cedar county, and passed away on November 21, 1949 at the age of 93 years 6 months and 23 days. In early childhood he came to Grand Junction with his parents and settled on a farm north of town where the remainder of his childhood was spent. At the age of 27 he was united in marriage to Mary Claudia Rice, and they have resided in this community ever since. He was one of Grand Junction's earliest pioneers, and when he first came here there was but one store. He took up the mason trade with his father and built many of the store buildings and residences of the town. He leaves to mourn his passing, two daughters, Mrs. Ed Jewett of Grand Junction and Mrs. Cora Dickerson of Corpus Christi, Texas; one grandson, Myron Jewett, and five great grand children, James Edmund, Janice Gloria, Mary Beth, Belva Ann, and Trena May Jewett, all of Grand Junction, and many relatives and friends.
