Sommers Born: January 10, 1929 Died: July 4, 2015 Daniel J. Sommers, 86, of Converse, IN, passed away at 12:43 PM, Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the VA Hospital in Marion. He was born in Howard County on January 10, 1929 the son of Monroe and Effie Horner Sommers. Daniel married Marjorie E. Williams at the Parsonage of the Converse United Methodist Church on July 18, 1954 and she preceded him in death on November 7, 2012. Dan was a member of the Converse United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School for more than 30 years. He was a U S Army Veteran and a barber in Converse through six decades. He was a member and past Commander of the Amboy American Legion Post. He is survived by two sons C. Thomas Sommers and his wife Marcia of Ft. Wayne and Samuel W. Sommers and his wife Beth Hall of Elkhart; a son-in-law Randy Nelson of Marion; a sister Elaine Rich of Bluffton, OH; a brother Elvin Sommers and his wife Barbara of Kokomo; a sister-in-law Thanet Sommers of Amboy and a brother-in-law Joe Richards of Goshen; grandchildren Dusty Peterson, Mande Donohue, Zachary Sommers, Travis Sommers and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, a daughter Diane E. Nelson, a brother Samuel D. Sommers and a sister Emma Richards. A service celebrating the life of Daniel J. Sommers will be held at 11:30 AM, Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Converse United Methodist Church with Pastors Donald Brenneman and Curtis Matteson officiating. Burial will be in Mast Cemetery, Howard County, IN with Military Graveside Services provided by members of the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 AM until the time of service, Tuesday at the Church.
