HERRICK Was born in Rockford, Illinois, September 29, 1853, being one of a family of five children, three girls and two boys. Mrs. Alvira Wells of Shelton is the only one surviving him. His parents moved to Iowa when he was nine years old and there he spent his young manhood days. He was married to Miss Abbie Williams at Nevada, Iowa, August 24, 1874. Three years later they came to Nebraska while the country was still new, and located four miles north west of here, where they improved a farm. About sixteen years ago they retired from farm life and he has since that time resided in Nelson with the exception of four years spent in Colorado fro (sic) his wife's health prior to her death which occurred April 3, 1912. They had nine children, two dying in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. F.A. Diehl of Austin, Colo.; George, John and William and Mrs. Roy Buffington of Nelson, and Clinton and Earnest of Fosston, Colo. He was married to Mrs. Etha V. Althouse October 28, 1914. Last Tuesday morning about ten o'clock Mr. Herrick had a stroke of paralysis, having had two lighter strokes before, and only retained consciousness about four hours. He died at his home in north Nelson December 13, 1918, aged 65 years, 2 months and 14 days. He was converted about thirty years ago at a meeting held at Shiloh school house, and he was a charter member of the U.B. Class at the Pleasant View church (sic) five miles north. When he moved to town he placed his membership with the M.E. church (sic). He has been very active in his Christian life and appreciated the church to which he gave his loyal support. While in Colorado he organized the Fosston Union Sunday school which is still keeping up the work. Besides the previously mentioned relatives, he leaves nineteen grand children. The community has lost a loyal citizen, a faithful friend and a supporter of every good cause. The funeral was held at his home Sunday at two o'clock p.m. conducted by his Pastor, Rev. W.W. Hull.
