Mr. Gallentine was born April 21, 1870 in Defiance County, Ohio, the son of [Eli and Rachael Davis Gallentine (correction)]. They moved to Logan Township when Mr. Gallentine was a small boy. He was married to Sarah Quick March 17, 1896 in Logan Township, where they farmed until 1930, when they moved to Marshalltown. Mrs. Gallentine died in 1948. He was a member of the Van Cleve Congregational Church. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. A. L. Mayer, Mrs. R. B. Anderson, and Mrs. Ray Fontanini, Marshalltown, and Mrs. Edwin McMartin, Pueblo, Colo.; three sons, Earl and William, Marshalltown, and Jasper, Gillett, Wis.; 30 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were three sisters and seven brothers. NOTES: Parents were incorrectly listed as Abraham and Sarah Lockhart Gallentine. Abraham was the name of Dan's grandfather and Sarah Lockhart appears to be a combination of his wife's first name and her mother's maiden name. His parents correct names, Eli and Rachael, are corrected in the above newspaper copy. While son Floyd was referenced in Sarah Gallentine's obituary as address unknown, he is not mentioned at all in his father's obituary. Uncertain if this was by Dan's own request or if the other children made the decision.
