On 4 Mar 1841 he received a letter of dismissal for himself and his mother as they intended to travel to the southwest. They traveled with family and other friends to South Arkansas where they purchased land and settled. Along the journey he married Nancy Buie 5 Oct 1841 in Jefferson Co., MS.
