He died Montgomery County, Iowa 1886, buried at Villesca, Iowa, and Mary (Polly) Mounts, born 1815 in Indiana and died in Scott County, Iowa about 1849. Married in 1830 in Edwards County, Illinois where both lived at that time. The following children were born in Edwards County: Anthony Wayne 1832: Emily 1834: Eliza 1836; Charles Sidney 1838; Mary died when four years old and buried there; Hugh Lewis 1841; Nancy Jane 1844; James Knox Hyrum 1847. The Stennetts enroute to Iowa, crossed the Mississippi River near Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, where the twins Martha and Elizabeth were born July 18, about 1849 in or near Davenport. The mother, Mary (Polly) Mounts Stennett died, exact date unknown, but no doubt at their birth, as Emily took her sister, Martha who then died when three months old, and Eliza took Elizabeth to raise. There seems to have been a group of relatives and friends who came from Kentucky to Edwards County, then some on to Montgomery County, Iowa. Daniel was the first white settler in Sherman Township, Iowa, Sec. 26 in the year 1853. The town Stennett, Iowa was named for Squire Daniel, a leading citizen at that time. He owned a hotel in Red Oak, Iowa; a drug store in Villesca, Iowa. When Elizabeth was eight years old she was allowed to spend a part of her time with her father. She told her families how she loved him. (In 1867 she married William Walter Dinwiddie. The oldest child, Mary Eliza [Dinwiddie] was born in Cherokee County, Kansas in 1868, one of twelve children. She married Charles T. Braden in Monona County, Iowa 1889. Their second child, Edith Clare was born 1891 and married Olaf Ulven in 1911 whose second child Mildred, born 1914 is submitting this). Charles and Nancy Short Stennett, parents of Daniel were early pioneers of Edwards County, Illinois. They owned and sold land there, and their will is on record.
