Mr. Pike died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at the Willamette Valley Medical Center in McMinnville. He was 69. Born in Omaha on Jan. 1, 1939, he was the son of George Fred and Elenora (Larsen) Pike. He graduated in 1958 from Omaha's Technical High School, where he worked on the theater stage crew. After high school, he worked as a shoe repairman, then as an optical lab technician, first in Omaha and later in Denver. He met Gretchen Pike at church in Denver. They married in 1969 in Salem and settled initially in Gladstone. After many years in Nebraska, they returned to Oregon on Aug. 28, 2008, settling in McMinnville to be near friends. Mr. Pike spent 4 1/2 years working for optical and dental labs in Portland, 3 1/2 years working at Harrris Pine Mills Furniture Manufacturing in Pendleton and then three years working for Molzer Manufacturing in Nebraska. Before retiring in 2004, he spent almost 25 years as a medical aide at the Beatrice State Development Center, also in Nebraska. He loved animals, especially dogs. He enjoyed watching "Star Trek" and military movies. He was a long-time member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Like his father, he loved gardening. He spent much of his free time tinkering in his yard. "He had a great sense of humor and a positive outlook," his family and friends said. He is survived by his wife in McMinnville.
