Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with Reverend Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Monday evening. Plueger was born November 11, 1928 in Le Mars, Iowa to Fred and Laura (Zink) Plueger. Darlene was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars. She attended country school and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1946. Darlene continued her education by attending nursing school at Morningside College in Sioux City. Upon graduating from nursing school, Darlene worked at a doctor's office in Sioux City. Darlene was united in marriage to Glenn Gronemeyer on May 3, 1951 at Christ Lutheran Church. Glenn and Darlene farmed in Grant Township for several years until 1961 when they moved to Hartley, Iowa briefly before returning back to the Le Mars area in 1962. In the late 1960's, Darlene went to work for Westmar College in the Business Office until her retirement in the late 1980's. Glen passed away on July 28, 1998. Darlene has been a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she had been very active throughout the years. She had also volunteered with Hospice of Siouxland helping to care for patients. Darlene also enjoyed traveling, playing bingo, and socializing with friends. She loved to visit with friends and attend community functions. In August of 2007, she moved to the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Survivors include her children, Greg Gronemeyer and Terri of Woodburn, Indiana, Barbara Schuler and Richard of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Richard Gronemeyer and his wife Donna of Wilton, Iowa; 7 grandchildren: Korey (Wendy) Behr, Kyle (Shelley) Behr, Brittni Behr, Brandi Schuler, Ben Schuler, Luke Gronemeyer, and Melody and Mackenzie Moritz; 5 great grandchildren, Jessi, Trenton, Shelby, Kameron, and Taylor; a sister, Esther Von Hagel of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Laura (Zink) Plueger; Glenn Gronemeyer; and a daughter, Sheryl Belfrage.
