Darlene Rosina Kludt was born Thursday, October 14, 1937 in Hutchinson County, South Dakota to Art A. and Vesta (Reiman) Bietz. She attended school through the eighth grade and later earned her GED. Darlene was united in marriage to Melvin Kludt on October 30, 1955 in the Dennewitz Lutheran Church near Tripp, which is where she was baptized and confirmed and where she also served as organist. She farmed with Mel five miles east of Tripp until she moved to Tripp following Mel's illness. She was a dedicated employee of the Good Samaritan Society of Tripp from June of 1968 until the time of her death. She spent her 43 years there as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a Med Aide, and an Activities Associate. Darlene had many interests and enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, playing the piano, crocheting and working with ceramics. She especially loved caring for her cat. She was a member of the First American Lutheran Church of Tripp and the Tripp Civic (Study) Club. She also volunteered at the Tripp Public Library. Darlene passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkston, having attained the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 21 days. Grateful for sharing Darlene's life are her three children: Brian (Joyce) Kludt of Waller, Texas, Janelle (Jerry) Schnabel of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Debra (Mark) Classen of Medina, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Michael Johnson, Jayson Johnson, Amy Johnson, Jared Schnabel, Jordan Schnabel, Eric Classen and Brett Classen; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Art and Vesta Bietz, Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Kludt on January 3, 1991, and a brother, Larry Bietz.
