"Deacon" Cannon, 84, a 72-year resident of Chelan, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002 at Central Washington Hospital following an extended illness. He was born Jan. 31, 1918, the son of Roy and Mary (Knobel) Cannon at Vancouver, B.C. At an early age, he moved with his family to Post Falls, ID, and then at age 12 he moved to Chelan. He graduated from Chelan High School in 1937. On May 20, 1944, he was married to Susie Snyder in Wenatchee. "Deacon" worked for the postal service for 35 years and then managed the liquor store in Chelan for 25 years. He was a longtime member of the Lake Chelan Eagles and the Lions Club. He is a past president of the Chelan Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Men's Bowling Association and the Chelan Falls Rod and Gun Club. He was also a "pit boss" for the hydroplane races on Lake Chelan years ago. He was very active in the community, especially Lions Club projects. His greatest pleasure in life was doing for others. He gave special care to several elderly people. "Deacon" spent the last year at Entiat Valley Senior Home in the gentle care of Dan and Cindy Wood. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Steve and wife Sally of Manson, and Rick of Chelan; a sister, Phyllis Sargent, of Mesa, AZ; two grandchildren, Kellie and Kramer; a special niece, Kathleen Jensen, of Portland, OR; and many nieces and nephews including Meredith Beeson of Chelan, who was very loving to him. He was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Cannon. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
