Born on October 4, 1936 in Hicksville, Darrel was the son of the late John “Fred” and Clara (Sackrider) Brown. He was a 1956 graduate of Hicksville High School. Read More	Darrel “DV” Brown, 80, of Hicksville, died Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born on October 4, 1936 in Hicksville, Darrel was the son of the late John “Fred” and Clara (Sackrider) Brown. He was a 1956 graduate of Hicksville High School. Darrel held the Hicksville 1 mile track record from 1956-1968. On January 31, 1960, Darrel was united in marriage to Elaine Johnson.Darrel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. During high school, he served in the Army reserve in Paulding. He volunteered to serve in the 4th Armor Division during the Cold War in Hohenfels, Germany from 1957-1959. While stationed in Germany, he was also recognized as an accomplished marksman with the M1 Garand rifle. After the Army, Darrel worked at Permaglass in Payne, OH. He then worked at BF Goodrich from 1962 until his retirement in 1999. Following his retirement, he worked for five years at Meijer in Defiance, OH. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Sherwood, United Steel Workers #715, United Rubber Workers, American Legion #223, Eagles #2556, Boy Scout member of Troop #28. He played softball in multiple leagues, was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and golf ball hunting. During his time with the American Legion, he assisted in 47 military funerals. Darrel was a very generous man who greatly loved his family. Darrel is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Greg (Kelly) Brown, Lori (Mark Larimore) Brown; grandchildren, Ryan and Luke Brown; a sister, Lillian Davis and a brother, Richard Brown. He was preceded in death by siblings, Fonda Hicks, Elma Richmond, Marian Holloway, Jack Brown, Gene Brown, Mary Lou Myers and his twin sister, Doris Brown. Funeral services for Darrel will be Saturday at 11:00 at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Visitation will also be Friday from 2:00 to 7:00 with an Eagles service at 7:00. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.
