Description	:	Darrel Dean, 85, of Bloomfield, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016. He was the son of Lawrence and Clara (Borgendalen) Dean, and was born March 23, 1931, in Pleasant Valley Township, south of Miller, South Dakota. He joined three brothers and two sisters, Leonard, Mildred, Raymond, Roger, and Helen. Darrel attended grade school in Logan Township and then high school at Miller Public School. He was the son of Lawrence and Clara (Borgendalen) Dean, and was born March 23, 1931, in Pleasant Valley Township, south of Miller, South Dakota. He joined three brothers and two sisters, Leonard, Mildred, Raymond, Roger, and Helen. Darrel attended grade school in Logan Township and then high school at Miller Public School. He was active in band, football, track, and FFA. During the summer, he participated in 4-H and baseball. Darrel farmed with his Dad until Uncle Sam called. He served in the United States Army, where part of his active duty was overseas in Germany. In February 1953, Darrel was married to Joan Cavener at Wessington, South Dakota. They were blessed with two children, Vickie and Debbie. Debbie passed away in 1959. After Darrel moved to Nebraska in 1971, he married Phyllis Pickinpaugh. He gained ten stepchildren through his marriage: Linda, Jerry, Judy, Mike, Tim, Vickie Lynn, Randy, Jim, Sandy, and Marietta. Darrel and Phyllis added a son, Chad, to their family. Darrel spent his last working years as an over the road hauler in 46 of the lower 48 states in the United States. Darrel is survived by: his children, Chad (Charity) Dean, Marietta (Bob) Norton, Jim (Eva) Pickinpaugh, Randy (M.J.) Pickinpaugh, Vickie Lynn Macke, Tim (Jill) Pickinpaugh, Mike (Amy) Pickinpaugh, Judy Harvey , and Jerry (Lesa) Pickinpaugh; son-in-law, Dave Stolp; daughter-in-law, Monica Pickinpaugh; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marles Dean and Harriet Fuerst; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Phyllis; daughters, Debbie Dean and Vickie Miller; step-daughters, Linda Miller and Sandy Stolp; and one grandson. Memorial services on Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield. Burial in Garr Cemetery in Miller, South Dakota. Military Honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4996, American Legion Post 249, United States Army Honor Guard, and American Legion Riders.
