He was born at home at Maxwelton to Herbert and Emily (Mackie) Green on Aug. 16, 1922, the youngest of five children. He participated in sports and activities at Langley High School and graduated in 1941. Following high school he worked as a logger and in agriculture on Whidbey. He married Earla Dalton, his high school sweetheart in 1943 and estabilished several South Whidbey residences until moving into their home which he build on Bailey Road in 1948. They had two children, Douglas and Ardis, and were very involved with their various activities, including coaching youth softball for many years. He valued education, serving a term on the school board in the mid-1970s, and provided both his children with a college education. He purchased Pioneer Mill in Bayview in 1960, working in both woods and the mill providing speciality lumber products to the railroad industry. He partnered with Ray Fossek of Langley in the logging business in the early 1960s and that relationship continued to the end based on their common interests in farming, hunting, fishing and generally enjoying life. He had wonderful experiences in the many elk hunting trips they made over the years. In 1965, he took a part time job with the Postal Service in Clinton and the job became full time as the local population grew. He retired in 1985 and put his energies into his cattle farm. Each spring and early summer were spent putting up hay on several local Maxwelton area fields. Every year since 1945, he spent the opening dyas of pheasant hunting season in the Ellensburg area with a group of close friends, until failing health did not allow it. He participated in baseball in his early years playing with the South Whidbey 'town team' in the 1940s and moved on to softball playing competitively through age 50. Gardening was an especially key activity in his life. He was also quite the cook. Meat and potatoes were the prime ingredients to his cooking. After the passing of Earla Green, his wife in 1996, he encountered the second love of his life and married Sandy Dolstad in 1999. He had five wonderful years with Sandy as they were active with Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Langley and shared many wonderful times with church activities and enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and clamming from his beach cabin. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Dolstad; a sister, Verna Colella, Seattle; children, Ardis (Brian Grimm), Bayview; son, Douglas (Cam) Green, Port Orchard; and grandchildren, Amy and Haley Green; Michael and Lindsey Grimm; Snady Dolstad's children, Ronee (Don) Ingram, Lake Stevens; Shari (Tom) Moffitt, Placerville, Calilf; and grandchildren, Davis Dye, Scott Ingram and Sam and Andy Moffitt. Memorial services will be May 28 at 1 p.m. at Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Langley.
