Memorial service were held November 25 in the United Methodist Church in Saronville with the Reverend Richard Shapland officiating. Vocalists were Shirley Syring and Kay Wach, and Betty Barbee was the organist. Casket bearers ere David Roemmich, Philip Roemmich Jr., Loren Stevens, Gary Roemmich, Jerry Stevens, and James Watson. Honorary bearers were Max Bailey, Fred Becker, Clarence Hurst, Dale White, Melvin Spahn and Philip Steinhauer. Interment was in the Sutton Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Sutton Argonne American Legion Post 61. Mr. Roemmich was born on a farm north of Sutton on February 27, 1927, to Leonard and Lydia (Klein) Roemmich. He was baptized and confirmed in the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton and later transferred his membership to the Saronville United Methodist Church in Saronville. He attended rural school near Edgar and graduated from Edgar High School in 1945. He served in the U. S. Army Air Force after graduation and he has resided in Clay County most of his life. On January 12, 1951, he married Thea Madelene Smith at York. Mr. Roemmich was employed at the Sutton Coop Grain for many years and worked for Clay County Highway Department for 17 years before retiring due to ill health. He served as the mayor of Saronville for the past 35 years. He was a member of the Sutton America Legion and the VFW of Harvard. He is survived by his wife, Thea, a daughter Sharon and husband Steve Ewing of Emporia, KS; sons, Thomas and wife Therese of Clay Center, Leonard and wife Gayle of Clay Center; and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters; Norma Pingry of Hastings and Verdilla Stevens of Grafton; three brothers Alonzo of Fremont, Philip of Mead, CO, and Leland of Platteville, CO. Preceding him in death were his parents, one son, Ronald , who died in 1977, and a brother Cleo. Memorials may be given to the family. Kohler Mortuary of Sutton was in charge of arrangements.
