Hills, a lifelong resident of Peshastin, passed away in his home on Monday, December 24, 2012, at the age of 86. Darwin was born to Charles and Rosena (Goss) Hills at Peshastin. He lived there, with his mother, father, three brothers, LaVern, Watt and Loren and his four sisters, Marie, Lorraine, Dart and Phyllis "Pete". Hills, a lifelong resident of Peshastin, passed away in his home on Monday, December 24, 2012, at the age of 86. Darwin was born to Charles and Rosena (Goss) Hills at Peshastin. He lived there, with his mother, father, three brothers, LaVern, Watt and Loren and his four sisters, Marie, Lorraine, Dart and Phyllis "Pete". On June 8, 1946, he married the love of his life, Mae Green, at Snoqualmie. They had three children, Penny, Dean and Nadine. Darwin worked numerous places, including the Northern Pacific Railroad, the Cashmere Mill and the Department of Transportation (DOT), where he had to retire at the age of 42, but he never slowed down. He loved to fish, camp at the Cove Resort, snowmobile and spend his time with family and friends. He was a craftsman at heart and was always building; everything from homes to rockwork. He loved tending to his garden, where he grew award winning tomatoes and flowers, and a day didn't go by, when he wasn't mowing their lawn. He will be missed by all and forever in our hearts. Darwin is survived by his wife, Mae Hills of the family home; his children, Penny Barnes of Peshastin, Dean (Marla) Hills of Cashmere and Nadine (Scott) West of Leavenworth; brother, Walt Hills of North Bend; sisters, Lorraine Cannon of Oregon and Phyllis McKinney of Washington; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. A Service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel, with a potluck gathering to follow at the Leavenworth Fire Hall Community Center. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
