She was born May 28, 1929 to Earl and Casandra (McElvaine) Green at Mt. Vernon, WA where she received her early education. She was born May 28, 1929 to Earl and Casandra (McElvaine) Green at Mt. Vernon, WA where she received her early education. Mae's family moved to Peshastin for her freshman year at Peshastin High School. On June 8, 1946, Mae married Darwin C. Hills at Snoqualmie, WA, where they lived until moving to the old dairy up on Blewett. They later moved to the Peshastin North Road and then back up to their permanent home on Blewett. Mae worked 40 years for Peshastin Fruit Growers as packer, strapper and gluing machine operator. She retired in the late 1980s. Mae Loved to crochet, crocheting hats and blankets for CW Hospital's preemies and newborns who were suffering illnesses. She loved cooking, especially for large crowds; going to Fish Lake, doing yard work with her husband, and working in the vegetable and flower gardens. One of the highlights of her life was receiving her brother's, Earl Kendrick Green, service information and war medals. He was MIA in WWII. Mae is survived by her children, Penny Barnes of Peshastin, Dean (Marla) Hills of Cashmere, and Nadine (Scott) West of Leavenworth; brother, Bob Green of Canada; brother-in-law, Walt Hills of North Bend; sisters-in-law Lorraine Cannon of Oregon and Phyllis McKinney of Everett; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin; her parents, Earl and Casandra Green, and a brother, Earl Kendrick Green. A service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel in Leavenworth, with a gathering to follow at the Leavenworth Fire Hall Community Center. Private family burial will be held at the Mountain View Cemetery, Leavenworth. Ward's Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
