Description	:	age 88y 6m 27d Darwin Milton Callahan was born in Ohio July 10, 1848, and moved with his parents to Lansing, Mich., in October of the same year. He grew to manhood in that vicinity, came to Iowa in the year 1874 and has been a resident of Iowa since that time. He grew to manhood in that vicinity, came to Iowa in the year 1874 and has been a resident of Iowa since that time. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Comer at Spring Hill, Warren county, Iowa, Jan. 1, 1881, and lived there until the past three years, since which he had been living with his daughters, Mrs. E.L. Hughes of Knoxville, Mrs. A.S. Lumsden of Lorimor and Mrs. G.M. Petersen of Ames. His wife’s death occurred in 1913. Mr. Callahan was a kind and loving father. He was a true Christian, having the firmest and most absolute faith in God. He studied the Bible thoroughly and hoped to live until the second coming of Christ. He was a great reader, always much interested in the daily affairs of his country, especially those things which were of a benefit to the human race. During 25 years of his early life he taught singing in Michigan and Iowa. He was always a hard worker never giving up to spend a day in bed until his last illness of two weeks which resulted in his death on Feb. 7, 1937, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.L. Hughes, in Knoxville, at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 27 days. He was one of a family of 12 children and is survived by three daughters and five grandsons grown to manhood; three brothers, George who lives in Canada, Henry of Lansing, Mich., and Reuben of Dade City, Fla. Four sisters and four brothers have preceded him in death. Funeral service were held at the Roberts and Evans funeral home at Norwalk Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 9, at 1:30 o’clock. Interment was in the cemetery at Norwalk.
