"Butch" Bird, Sioux Falls, SD, died April 21, 2007, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was 61. Butch was born on August 31, 1945, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Kenneth and Alice (Wallin) Bird. After his graduation from Washington High School in 1964, Butch began working at John Morrell and Company. In the fall of 1965, Butch entered the US Army. He served until 1967. Upon his return home following the service, he continued his work at John Morrell. Butch was united in marriage to Nancy Boyd on November 10, 1967. Throughout his career he worked in various departments including canning, fresh meat, sausage cooler, and the loading dock. Butch retired in 2005, due to health complications from Picks Disease. He was a member of the Local 304 and a past member of the Moose. Butch was an enthusiast of the Minnesota Vikings and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Even more so, however, he was an avid fan of his children. He thoroughly enjoyed attending their sporting events and practices. In his free time he enjoyed bowling, music, video taping, reading, gardening and particularly liked raising roses. Butch devoted his strength to provide shelter and food for his family; he devoted his love to provide encouragement and security, and devoted his work ethic and morals to ensure the legacy of the generations. Grateful for having shared is life are his relatives; wife, Nancy Bird, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Michele Nesheim (John), Crooks, SD; sons, Michael Bird (Mindy), Crooks, SD, Daryl Bird, Jr., Crooks, SD; sisters, Dolores Bain, Sioux Falls, SD, Beverly Butler (William), Sioux Falls, SD, Karla Bird, Vermillion, SD; brothers, Rodney Bird (Janet), Sioux Falls, SD, Craig Bird (Kathy), Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law, Rosemary Bird, Lyles, TN; and grandchildren, Steven Johnson, Zachary Kaubisch, Sean Johnson, Kayla Bird, Shelby Johnson, Taylor Nesheim, Andrew Nesheim and Rylee Bird, all of Crooks. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; sister, Karen Davids; brother-in-law, Francis Bain; and sisters-in-law Loraine Bird and Maryann Bird. Funeral Services will be held at Miller West, 6200 W. 41st Street, with interment at Hills Of Rest Memorial Park. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home.
