GOSS, 44, of Evanston, Ill., son of Ira D. GOSS of this city, had taken his life by hanging in the forest area on the southeast shore of Lake Manitou. He had been ill for about six weeks and had suffered a severe depression. He had spent several days in his father's home, 1611 Main street, about three weeks ago and left here to enter the Illinois State Hospital at Elgin. Later it was learned that he did not enter the hospital but had gone instead to Ottawa, Ill. Since then he had not been heard from and all efforts to determine his whereabouts had been without result, although the Illinois State Police had been alerted to look for him. David Goss was born in Crawfordsville, Ind., in November, 1908. He moved to Rochester in 1912 with his parents and lived here for five years before moving to Chicago. He had two children: David [GOSS], Jr., and Mrs. Charles McFADDEN of Des Moines, Ia. Also surviving are his father and his sister, Mrs. Robert S. ARCHER, Rye, N.Y. David definitely was a war casualty. He was drafted into military service at 36 years of age, shortly before the age limit was reduced. He was engaged in active service in Germany from the Rhineland down to and including Czechoslovakia. When the war in Europe ended his battalion was brought back and sent at once to Japan. Shortly after his discharge, he was obliged to enter a veterans' hospital where it was said he was afflicted with a severe neurosis. After six months in this hospital, he was apparently in normal health, but in the subsequent years the neurotic condition recurred at intervals and at such times he was incapacitated for several months. This last attack was one of the most severe of all and at such times he could not be held responsible for his actions. Funeral services will be held at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Charles Merrill SMITH of the Grace Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be in the IOOF cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call.
