He was the last surviving member of his family, his mother dying when he was but three weeks old. An only brother died in early manhood and his father a number of years later. He was the last surviving member of his family, his mother dying when he was but three weeks old. An only brother died in early manhood and his father a number of years later. He enlisted in the army in response to one of the earliest calls, belonging to Co. 15, Ohio Vols. He was married at Hopwell, Muskingum county, Ohio, to Hattie Balsley, January 2, 1870. To this union were born three sons and two daughters, one son dying in infancy and a daughter 13 years ago. The surviving members of the family are the widow, Frank of Fort Scott, Willetta and Clifton of Holton. Shortly after marriage, Mr. and Mrs. German came to Kansas, locating on a farm near Valley Falls, at which place the family was reared. From this home the family moved to Holton in March 1893, where they have since resided. Mr. German was converted and became a member of the Methodist church 42 years ago ... For several years Mr. German has been a rural mail carrier out of Holton. He was also an enthusiastic Mason and a member of Will Wendell Post, G. A. R. .... Interment was made in the Holton cemetery....
