Read More	David Earl Moberly, 89, was born David Earl Tucker on Saturday, March 24, 1923 at Chickasha, Oklahoma. He was born in a house that still stands today. His father was Warren Isaac Madden Tucker, who was born in Indian Territory in 1895. His mother was Thelma Evelyn Johnson who was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1903. David was the second of three children born to this couple. In 1925, his young father died of typhoid fever in Corsicana, Texas. This death, plus the loss of their infant daughter earlier that year, was so upsetting to Thelma that she was unable to care for her two small children. Her mother (David's grandmother), Bertha Dell Brady and her second husband, Archibald L. Moberly of Leavenworth, Kansas adopted David and his sister, Marian and took them to Leavenworth. This changed David's last name to "Moberly". David grew up in Archie and Bertha Moberly's house on Billy Goat Hill. The Moberly house was full of children. It seems that they took in grandchildren and strays. Archie Moberly was a railroad man and wasn't home much. He passed away in 1936. David attended Wilson Grade School and Leavenworth High School until 1939 when he went to Boulder, Colorado to live with his Uncle Earl. David graduated from Boulder High School in 1941. During World War II, David enlisted and chose to join the Navy. He served with the 99th Naval Construction Battalion, or SeaBees, in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. David enrolled at Ottawa University and was on the football team (as a kicker) and the track team. While there he met and courted a pretty young woman student from Overbrook named Betsy Clark. They married in 1947. David received his Bachelor's degree in education from Ottawa University in 1950. He also received a Master's Degree from Fort Hays State University. The young couple moved to Topeka and began teaching. Later teaching employment opportunities took them to Kanopolis, Kansas. While there, they had two sons: Grady Joe and Alan Dean. They then moved to Moscow, Kansas; to Belpre, Kansas; to St John, Kansas, and to Pueblo, Colorado. They divorced in 1967. After the divorce, David's career as an educator took him to Carstairs, Alberta, Canada; Parkville, Missouri; and Rolla, Missouri. In 1983 his firstborn son Joe died at age 30 and is buried at Overbrook Cemetery. In 1994, David moved to Carlson Plaza in Manhattan, Kansas, in order to be near his grandchildren, and managed it for a time. He would often come to visit and would take them to do fun things. In 2007, David moved to First Apartments in Topeka to be near the VA Hospital. In May 2012, David underwent gall bladder surgery and then went to ManorCare for rehab. His health continued to fail. He died there suddenly on Saturday, July 14, 2012. The last family members who saw him alive were his son Alan and his daughter-in-law Dianna, on the day before he died. They talked to him about what each of his grandchildren was doing. He kissed them both and asked Alan to find him a ballgame on the television set before he left.
