Description	:	David Ebenezer Haddock, Sally Haddock, and Thomas Ireland, were the first to settle in Shetek after the Dakota conflict. Thomas Ireland was the only uprising survivor to return to Lake Shetek. Among those that lost their lives on August 20, 1862 at Slaughter Slough were Mr. Ireland’s wife, Sophia Waters and two of his daughters, Sarah Jane and Julianne. Thomas or “Uncle Tom” as he was called was also wounded at Slaughter Slough and left for dead. Thomas Ireland married Sally Smyth or Smith Haddock January 9, 1867 at Shetek, Murray County. I question that the marriage was in Murray County. Vital records were not started until 1872. The question of how and where Thomas Ireland met Sally Haddock is unanswered. One account said that he lived with and later married the widow Haddock. David Haddock, his mother, Sally, two sisters, Irene and Nancy were in Ulysses, Potter, Pennsylvania in the 1860 Census. David’s father, Anthony, had died in 1852 and David’s brother James had died at Gettysburg July 3, 1862. David’s sister, Irene Louisa Haddock, married Elias Nutting Peterson July 14, 1866 in Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota. I was not able to find this marriage in the Minnesota data base. Thomas and Sally Haddock Ireland only stayed a few years at Shetek. They settle in Mankato. Thomas died August 8, 1897 at Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota at the age of 84. Sally died February 15, 1885. In FAG, Sally Ireland is said to be buried at Tivoli Cemetery, Eagle Lake, Blue Earth County, Minnesota. The date of the death is stated as February 15, 1883. Thomas Ireland is said to be buried at that same cemetery, but he is not listed. The Minnesota death index does not start until 1908. January 29, 1877 Merton T. January 29, 1877 D.E. May 12, 1870 Lillian Irene died February 16, 1870 of congestion of the liver. Shetek Township was organized 2 July 1872; David Haddock was an election judge. Only nine votes were casted. D.C Haddock was the first Town Clerk. The family must have left Murray County after the 1880 Census and went to Kansas where James was born in 1881 and William born in 1884 and Emaline died in 1885. He married Emaline Cyrene PETTIS 'Emma' on February 12, 1868 at St Peter, Nicollet County, MN. David Ebenezer Haddock married Nellie SPICER on May 18, 1902. He died on September 19, 1919 at Ringgold, McPherson County, NB, at age 81. He is buried at Loup Valley Cemetery Nesbit, NB.
